They looked so alike, Alhaitham thought, seeing Kaveh’s and his father’s smiles side by side, even if Kaveh could not see it for himself. Kaveh’s father glanced over at his son then, nodding along to his son’s explanations of the dream palace he’d one day build, and the gaze he wore on his face was infinitely, infinitely warm and proud, like the soundless passing of a flame from one torch to another.
Alhaitham can see ghosts. It is oftentimes a curse but sometimes, on a few occasions, also a blessing.

Thoma stops, mid-sweep as he stares back at Ayato, who has his palms on either side of his face. He’s looking out his open window, where he’s been blessed by the view of Thoma in his short-sleeved black shirt, sweeping the back of the estate.
“I’m asking you as a matter of practicality.”

Alhaitham tries to think of an excuse. He really does. But with Kaveh staring at him with reddened lips, his chest still heaving from the previous events, all he can admit is, “I lied.”
People tend to wonder how Alhaitham can resist Kaveh. The answer is that he can't. Rather, he fails miserably trying.

"No, no, I finish university many years ago. I am architetto—architect!" Kaveh gestured expressively. "I design buildings, I work on restoration of old buildings, sometimes I just... think about buildings." He laughed self-consciously. "My friends, they say I think too much about buildings, but buildings are importante! They are where we live, where we work, where we make our memories. Good architecture, it should make life better, you know? Should make people happy."
"An idealistic approach."
"You think is idealistic?" Kaveh looked at him curiously, head tilted. "Maybe yes. But if architects don't think about making people happy, then what? We just make boxes for them to be sad in?"
Despite himself, Alhaitham felt a smile threaten to surface. "A valid point."

“March 1st, 1063,” Diluc answered without missing a beat. Kaeya’s arms dropped to his side, and his skin grew increasingly pale.
“That’s—that’s not possible.”
“Why?” Kaeya remained silent. Diluc took a shaky step forward. “Why, Kaeya?” The look in that crystalline eye almost scared Diluc. He’s not sure why, but something told him he really didn’t want to know the answer to that question.
“Because father died on April 30th, 1058. He’s been dead for almost five years.”
*****Two versions of Diluc end up in each others' worlds. One where Crepus never died, and one that we know all too well.

He began to explain, pressing his back against the wall again.
"I've honestly been pretty curious to know all the little mechanisms behind it." He tilted his head a little to the side, still grinning.
Huh.
"Mm.. That's understandable..." The blond mumbled.
"Mind if I ask you some questions about it?" asked the technician with a small smile and a raised eyebrow.
"I... guess that's fair," Kaveh's hand moved to sheepishly rub behind his neck. "You can ask me anything then."

It was a gossip magazine. They had taken a photograph of them together at the bazaar, and the subtitle read “You might have heard the Light of Kshahrewar complaining about Scribe Alhaitham, but you probably haven’t heard that they live together. (And that they dated in their student days…)”
”Dated?!” Kaveh shrieked, throwing the edition at the wall. He then instantly scrambled out of bed to read the rest.

Each day, Kaveh is transferred to a different parallel reality, and in every single one of those, he and Alhaitham are together:
Waking up in Alhaitham’s arms felt more familiar on the third day. By the fourth, it was fully expected and, by the fifth, he found himself snuggling into those warm arms and sometimes smiling at the “Good morning, sweetheart,” before reminding himself of the situation and sitting down a very confused Alhaitham for a very confusing conversation. It’s not you he loves, he reminded himself, time and time again.
