“How do you know I don’t have backup heading our way right now?” Goro asks, his voice coming out as more of a sigh as he slumps more against Joker, peering at him through half-lidded eyes.

Geralt retreated until his back hit the wall with a dull thud, but Jaskier would not be deterred. He shoved his face into the crook of Geralt’s neck and breathed in deeply, his hands gripping the edges of the damp cloak draped over broad shoulders. “You’re…”
“I need… need to ask you… for a…” He clenched his teeth, eyes rolling to the ceiling. Two gloved hands lifted to push Jaskier away from his chest; it felt like trying to move a mountain. Not because Jaskier pushed back, but because every fibre of his being wanted to pull the other way. Ask for a what though? ‘Favour’ didn’t quite fit the bill for what he was about to request, and so he stared at Jaskier with those intense golden eyes, while mentally scrambling for a coherent explanation amidst the brain fog.
Geralt and Jaskier get together, fall in love with Eskel, and learn that it's all right to want (and let themselves have) things.

Geralt had just defeated a creature in a sea town when a too familiar bard had approached him on the dock and insisted on travelling with him. Geralt had tried to leave him behind and hide somewhere by himself, potions already taking a toll on him, but Jaskier had insisted, and the wounds were too painful to waste time arguing, so he didn’t stop him when Jaskier followed him around.
And that was when a new side effect of the potions started to kick in.
