Sometimes he swore Smitty must feel the same. The way he looked at John at times felt too warm to be just a friendly gaze. His eyes would linger on John’s lips when he was listening to him and John noticed because he caught himself doing the same quite often. He wanted to kiss him until he couldn’t breathe, hold him and touch him until they forgot where one starts and the other ends. He wanted to breathe in and smell only Smitty, hear only Smitty, feel only Smitty. He wanted to be devoured by Smitty, by his love, his touch, his everything.

They were just best friends sharing a flat. That's what he had told their neighbour across the hall when they moved in six months ago.
There was absolutely nothing between them - apart from a drunken kiss during a party at Matt's on the floor above that they never talked about. So, there was no reason for Smitty to be jealous when John started going out on dates.
And also, he was already in love with his friend. So, there was that.

Summary
John’s a very pampered cat, properly the most high-maintance cat Tyler’s ever taken in. John was way more on edge than any of his other cats, didn’t trust anyone, and didn’t like his fur being messed up. Smitty was with him, friendly but fiercely loyal to John. Now they’d spend their days rubbing against each other, napping on each other, and on a good day, John would allow Puffer or Matt to rub against him as well.
Then John met a puppy. He brought him home, and he was given a name—Droid.
