Summary
amidst a reeling summer heat, laura lee has memorised too much of her new international version (niv) bible.
she displaces what would be sacrilegious to deem boredom into fascination of somebody else.
in an unexplainable way, it doesn't feel quite so blasphemous.OR
laura lee's obsession with lottie portrayed through the opening lyrics of vbs by lucy dacus (a doc i wrote two whole years ago!)

Summary
“We are not dying here,” Lottie states with a firm voice, turning her head with an expression that shines brighter than any astral body.
Laura Lee blinks and tries her hardest to match her with a reassuring smile, only managing a grimace before sitting up to dump the rest of the stabbed worms into the water.
“Patience is a virtue,” she says for the sake of filling the silence, and Lottie wordlessly accepts the paddle from her trembling hand.
“Beautiful,” Lottie sighs, probably referring to the dying sunlight, as it paints the sky in pink hues and bold oranges.
“Glory be,” Laura Lee replies, watching the golden light caressing Lottie’s face in delicate strokes, just as she wishes her fingers were doing at the moment. “Thank you for indulging me, Lottie.”
