    Summary

It was Liu Qingge’s duty to protect Shen Qingqiu, to ensure that he would be healthy and safe, that he would always come back home. It was his duty as a shidi, as a friend, and as someone with the potential to be more. It was reasonable to assume that the mission to Jinlan City would be no different.

Shen Qingqiu does not return from Jinlan City.

There are no words to describe the grief that Shen Qingqiu has unknowingly left in his absence.

    Summary

It’s impossible, Shen Qingqiu thinks blankly. It can’t possibly be what he thinks it is.

The Enlightened Destiny Springs were a once-off location mentioned in Proud Immortal Demon’s Way as part of Wife 278’s arc— because of course it was. Capable of miracles, it was only accessible to couples who had mutual and requited feelings.

… So then how did he stumble upon it with Liu Qingge?

    Summary

Shen Qingqiu, his lovely cheeks stained red, carefully takes the mysterious flower from his hands. His eyes sparkle, and Liu Qingge’s breath is punched out of him. Liu Qingge doesn’t know what’s so special about it, but if flowers get that kind of reaction from him, then he would gladly uproot a whole meadow just to see that smile again.

    “I accept.”

It’s a flower, and nothing more. But Shen Qingqiu looks at him like he’s brought the greatest gift of all.

    Summary

Xie Lian wasn’t even sure who he was being sacrificed to, this time. In the past, it was almost always shared—overheard before the knife plunged, for example. But tonight, he was on a cold altar, waiting for the eventual end, and had roughly no idea why the mortals were so scared, so nervous, yet so relieved. On the other hand, he had never been granted the sight of something so beautiful before his slaughter—the wings of a silver butterfly danced right over his face, and landed gently on his nose, where blood slowly dripped. Xie Lian thought it was a very precious goodbye. Or apology, maybe. He found that he didn’t mind.

(or: xie lian is sacrificed to one of crimson rain sought flower’s temples. the aftermath is certainly something.)

    Summary

"The world is at least fifty percent bad. Sometimes he thinks that’s a conservative estimate. For every dog pet, there is one kicked. For every penny given, one is taken. Xie Lian is not a gambling man.

But that’s the thing about halves: there’s always a flip side. Maybe if Xie Lian flips the coin enough times, some day it’ll land right side facing up. Forever might mean infinite disappointment, but it also means infinite chances—every time Xie Lian makes a bad gamble, there will always be a next time, and a next, and a next.

And Xie Lian is cold. He’s so tired from watching the rain from inside the storm. He wants to curl up in something soft and listen to it rage around him, rather than letting it chew him up and spit him out.

(He thinks that he would like to be beautiful, to somebody’s eyes.

He thinks that he would like to be saved.)"

    **********

OR: Hua Cheng finds Xie Lian on the streets of Shanghai after more than a thousand years of searching. He brings him home.
