Summary
Four kids is really enough, Kim thinks to himself.
If he’s honest with himself (and he tries not to be, in this family that way lies only madness), he really thought two kids was quite enough, but Chay had wanted more, and Kim has always had trouble saying no to Chay. Breaking the heart of the one you love tends to do that to a person, makes them overly cautious and eager to prevent any further hurts, no matter how little.
So three. Three, Kim had thought, was certainly enough. Of course, that pregnancy had been twins.
So, four. Four. Four was… a lot. Especially being up all night with twin newborns.
But Chay had batted his pretty little eyes and pouted his pretty lips and made himself look so small and cute even though he was two whole inches taller than Kim…
And Kim had said no.

Summary
“She’s precious. I want one, Vegas,”
The words echo in Vegas’s head the entire time they’re in the hospital. Pete has never mentioned kids before, never breathed a single word about them. And now this. Now, this tiny creature who he set in Vegas’s arms as if Vegas was meant to know what to do with it.
Eventually, they leave the new parents alone, heading back to their home. In the car, Vegas taps his fingers on the steering wheel and tries to think of the right words, ones that aren’t going to set off that fierce, stubborn streak Pete has. Ones that will appeal to the good boy who lets Vegas decide everything.
What comes out is, “You know we can’t really have a baby, right?”
It is entirely the wrong thing to say. Pete turns on him with a frown, eyes narrowed. “And why not, exactly? We’re young. We’re healthy.”
We’re insane, Vegas doesn’t say, because he does have some self-preservation instincts.

Summary
Presenting is not the sort of thing that happens all at once. It’s not like one minute you are nothing and the next you’re an Alpha, or an Omega. It’s more of a slow, gradual process. For some people, it can take up to a week.
Chay starts to feel feverish three days before his eighteenth birthday. Fever can mean anything, to be honest, even Betas sometimes present with fever. So he’s not super worried when he makes birthday plans with his friends. He could have ages before something happens, and it could be a Rut, which is shorter and more manageable. Or nothing at all!
(It’s not going to be a rut. Or nothing. Chay knows, deep in his bones, exactly what he is. But after his last encounter with an Alpha, it’s the last thing he wants to think about, so he simply doesn’t. He makes his plans and he pretends he isn’t waking up from hazy dreams, sweaty and hard.)
