Summary
The orphanage always brought in new kids after Sânge Noapte, fished up from wells and gathered up from attic crawl spaces from the rural villages too small to withstand the annual slaughter. Ivan had been found tucked away underneath the floorboards beneath his mother’s body. They said he had been so thoroughly soaked in her blood that they couldn’t even tell what color his hair was supposed to be.
