The earring that Hoffman had oh-so-kindly left in Strahm’s apartment, the one that Strahm had almost feverishly shoved through the unbroken, virgin skin of his ear lobe, had infected Strahm’s ear to the point that even the breeze brushing against it as he walked to the corner store and back was horrendously painful. He’d had worse injuries, his throat still killed, but the dull, poisonous throb of his ear was getting to him a little bit. A reminder that he was a horny, lust addled man who split his own skin apart for Mark Hoffman, of all people. It didn’t help that he couldn't stop fiddling with it either.

“Goddamn it, Hoffman,” Peter ran a hand over his face in the exasperated manner of a man wanting to rub it clean off, “Why are you visiting? Give it to me straight, just this goddamn once.” Haven’t you gotten your fill of torturing me? hung heavy in the air.
Peter Strahm could not be more grateful to have woken up in a dingy little hospital room—alive and, mostly, in one piece. Having just gone through one of the most harrowing ordeals of his life (and having made it out by the skin of his goddamn teeth), he’d have expected a pat on the back, maybe even a special little badge for his efforts (“You Survived Jigsaw, Good Job!”)—no such luck, but, who needs that crap anyway? He’d made it out, that’s a reward enough—and it’s not like things could possibly get worse from here on out, right? …Right?
