For several blissful moments, time stood still and reality twisted itself into something unrecognizable, something slow, something safe; he was both heavy and weightless, leaden and floating through still air like a feather. Mark had never planned for Strahm to survive if he didn't get into the glass coffin. It'd never even crossed his mind that he could, so when the hydraulic systems fail... well, he doesn't really know what the fuck to do about that.
Now he has a very injured, very pissed off FBI agent on his hands that he may or may not have framed for murder. But maybe Mark can still try to make Strahm understand just what it is he'd been trying to tell him in the first place.

His tone was matter of fact, like he hadn’t even considered any other possibility.
Hoffman’s stomach churned at the suggestion of more food, but turning him down might look suspicious. It was rare that the special agent attempted to extend an olive branch like this. Normally, Strahm avoided him like the plague during work hours. They were always at each other’s throats when forced to deal with each other—Strahm had hated him the second he laid eyes on him and the feeling was mutual—and even during the few hookups they’d had to work off some of that tension before they killed each other, they were usually too busy taking each other apart to play nice.

“Then handle it,” Mark returned firmly.
Peter turned to look at him, a little surprised by the response. Under normal circumstances, Mark suspected that the agent would have punched him for giving an order like that, but sitting in the semi-darkness of the evening, in a private little bubble, moving through the city, it was harder to keep up his walls. Especially when Mark was on to something.

With his usual Caregiver in the hospital after a run-in with Jigsaw, Peter hasn't been able to reset himself in the way he's used to. Thankfully, Mark knows more than most about caring for a Little, and he knows the signs when he sees them.
