He remembers telling Mel about this place once, the sound of waves meeting the shore, the sky lighting up as the sun rises.
It’s easy to picture her here, in cutoff shorts and an oversized sweater, hair lighter from days spent in the sun.
He’s only been walking for a minute when he sees someone come out of one of the houses that backs onto the beach down the way. Their braid is loose, tendrils flowing in the breeze as they step onto the sand.
But it can’t be her, right?
