Summary
The crux of the matter is that Kakashi’s old. By the time he finally gives up the hat, he’s nearly forty and growing older, and while he’s faced death too many times to still remember to fear it, he certainly thinks about it. He can’t help it. He blames the Nidaime — staring at Senju Tobirama’s reanimated face reminds Kakashi of everything that will die with him: his clan, their history, an entire generation. The realization leaves him unsettled, and as his body starts to ache more and more, he finds himself wishing for a world in which he isn’t so alone.
Or, Kakashi returns to the Hatake compound in an attempt to speak with his ancestors and promptly forgets that the Hiraishin is, above all else, an experimental time/space jutsu. By activating it, he finds himself in a world not quite like his own.

"The fall of Uzushio collapsed our economy, our protections. You might think I'm being rosy, but they really cared about us. And they knew how to party. You know they had a seal that could swap body parts? Wildest night of my life,” the boatman’s eyes go distant for a long moment, “...but you kids are too young to hear about that.
“Anyway,” he continues, “our economy’s been a shambles since; maybe gets going for a year or two before it collapses again. No security of stability, so assholes like Gato think they can waltz in here and take charge. Boy, he'd be singing a different tune if the Uzumaki were still around."
Sakura’s eyes widen a bit at that, and even Sasuke looks up. Naruto opens his mouth to say something, but Kakashi puts a firm hand on his shoulder.
“What an… illuminating piece of history,” says Kakashi, “Thank you for sharing.”

(Kiri may have won the battle, but not the war. The island of Uzushio might not be as dead as previously believed.
All Kakashi knows now is that he really should have refused that mission to Wave.

Summary
An existence of peace in the Pure Land does wonders to heal lifelong scars and reunite a once broken team, but Team Seven, no matter which iteration, has never had the best relationship with peace.
While Rin, Obito, and Kakashi might be responsible for their predicament, they certainly didn't mean for it to turn out like this. Now, thrown back to the last moment all three of them were alive, the once-again young members of Team Minato find themselves dealing with something far more consequential than deja vu.
They've already gone through this travesty of a script once before, however, and they're not eager for a repeat performance. The fabric of space-time can kindly set itself on fire, they're doing this their way.
