Officially, he was Sergeant Ethan Beckett, 5th Infantry Division. Unofficially, he'd spent the better part of the last few decades running guns for the Sabbat, ferrying crates of munitions through bloodied borders and black markets. It was profitable, efficient. Strategic. Then Marcus Vite—the so-called “clan leader”—decided Ethan was too useful to leave behind the lines. “Immerse yourself,” he had said. “See what the kine do when cornered.”
So here Ethan was. Behind enemy lines, again. This time, he actually got caught.

In the show sort of leans more toward the show but it also shouldn't be discounted that Simon wouldn't become a shadowhunter like he does in the books(sadly the show ended before they got a chance to make shadowhunter Simon but I believe that's where it was going so he will not be a vampire forever.).
