But it had also been a long time since he’d lived in San Diego again and he’d been fighting back the memories for months, preferring the long drive out to the Mojave over the varied sights of the city and how all of it dragged up memories he’d sooner forget.
But avoidance had never worked for him before. It hadn’t worked when Jake asked the inevitable “what are we?” after weeks of sleeping together with soft touches and sweet kisses, it hadn’t worked after he found out Mav had pulled his papers to the Academy, it hadn’t worked when his mother was diagnosed with cancer. It only made sense that it hadn’t worked here.
He still didn’t want to think about it. And Nat had unknowingly, unintentionally, gone and made him think about it.
So now he couldn’t stop thinking about it. And that…was a problem.
