Summary
Our tale begins with Xie Lian hiring an escort to help him deal with an “unspeakable affliction” after a disastrous breakup forced him to leave college and return to his hometown.
Hua Cheng (or Wuming, as he is called when we first meet him) isn’t really interested in helping people—he just wants to get paid. If the situation with a client seems too complicated to deal with, he has no problem walking away. But for some reason he can’t explain, he feels compelled to help Xie Lian.
The two find themselves very quickly drawn to one another, but nothing in life is easy, especially when it comes to love.
Xie Lian is struggling to forget about the demise of the relationship that ruined his life—a struggle complicated by the fact that his ex may or may not be stalking him.
Meanwhile, Hua Cheng is busy running from a past that will soon catch up to him with deadly consequences.

He remembers the jolt of his stomach when the door opened, and the feeling that he ought to climb back inside his body before San Lang found him out. He remembers that he willed the arm that was his arm to move, but it would only shake, and he wondered, distantly, if he might cut his own throat from the trembling alone. He ought to remember the look on San Lang’s face when he threw open the door and flew to his side, but he doesn’t. No, worse than that: Xie Lian doesn’t know, because he didn’t even have the courage to look at him.

Summary
After ascending as a martial god, Hua Cheng has been watching over Xie Lian, turned into a calamity by Bai Wuxiang, and trying to help him, but to no avail: the ghost of the god he worships wants nothing more than to be left alone. When the entire ghost realm turns hectic, though, hitting Xie Lian particularly hard, Hua Cheng has a chance to prove himself useful.
