    Spock was never going to pick Jim, who people believe is a functioning alcoholic and who sometimes enters the bridge with his gold shirt on backwards. He and Spock have become a force to be reckoned with as far as them being a command team since their time on the Enterprise started 8 months ago but Jim knows the Vulcan still doesn’t like him very much. Yes, they play chess twice a week and they do tend to do their paperwork together in the Ready-room but that doesn’t mean they are friends. Uhura on the other hand has her shit together- she speaks Vulcan fluently, always looks stunning, has her paperwork handing in early and even looks beautiful in does stupid robes she was made to wear for this ceremony.

    A companion fic for The Sad Bitch Chronicles written by hollyesque but Jim is a man.

    "Celibate," Spock suggests. Rendor shakes his head, causing his thin, white hair to bounce just slightly where it rests above narrow shoulders.

    Jim shifts beside Spock. His body goes completely still for several moments, as if in a trance, before the human says, "Loneliness. You're talking about loneliness."

    Of course. Of course he fucking does. Because life couldn’t possibly only be cruel enough to deposit at Jim’s side the most intelligent, incandescent, and attractive man from here to the end of the universe - couldn’t simply make that same man loyal to a fault or attuned to Jim’s every move - on top of it all, life just had to drive Jim’s head into that same fumbling brick wall every single time. He can’t even be angry at himself, only disappointed. Jim should have known that what is most important to him could only ever have been Spock.
