Sihtric smiled, one she’d seen when he’d joked around with Finan, or teased Osferth.
“And you’re very wild,” he said, a hint of mischief in his eye. “for a nun.”
Hild chuckled, suddenly finding it easier to do so with the young Dane.
“May God protect you, then.”
“I do not need God. I have the warrior nun.”
And again, even with a hint of laughter in his voice, he was serious. Hild knew for sure then that while he’d protected her in battle, she would protect him as well. The way she’d protect Uhtred and Finan and Osferth, her boys. She’d protect them for as long as she could, because she cared for them, and they cared for her. Her boys.
OR
Hild, previously wary of the new young Dane in their company, learns new things about their quiet warrior, and she discovers something about herself. She might just care about the Pagan.

Jamie loves team parties.
He loves basking in the raucous laughter, the giddiness where everything seems funny and like a reason to sling an arm around a teammate’s shoulder.
He loves knowing that for a few hours, at least, he won’t have to go back to his empty fucking flat and its sparse fridge and the unmade bed he’ll eventually crawl into. He loves knowing that for a few hours, at least these days, he’ll be surrounded by people who properly fucking care about him. Who won’t slap him around the cheek at the slightest slip-up.
Jamie loves team parties.
