They stared at each other for a breath, then Hawks pushed off his perch and took a few steps towards her. The smile on his face was equal parts cocky and charming as he reached for the detergent and placed it on the dryer. His hands placed themselves on the machine behind Yumie, trapping her within the space between his arms as he leaned forward.
“Mm...maybe because it’s fun to watch you struggle every now and again,” he answered with the ease of a calm ocean wave. He turned his face to nuzzle his nose against her head and inhale the scent of her conditioner. A chuckle rumbled in his chest as he asked, “What sort of hero would I be if I didn’t help someone in need?”
