Summary
“Hello, Thrawn,” Eli bids him, a smile shaping his lips, the heat he feels in his chest echoed in the curve of his mouth, the way his eyes resist the urge to gloss over with some amalgamation of emotion that demands to manifest in the precursor to tears.
He sees the subtle shift as Thrawn lowers his guard. He takes one step, another half dozen, and they clasp forearms, their fingers squeezing tightly. Eli leans in, his left arm comes up and around to brace Thrawn's back in the briefest, most professional version of an embrace he can offer: a compromise between Human sentimentality and Chiss stoicism.
Or, a story about finding something you hadn't realized you'd lost in the first place.

The dragon arrived early in the morning, and by noon the entire village was in a panic in the town hall. No one in the village knew anything about dragons, aside from what they’d heard in fairy tales and stories, and the plans for dealing with it were about that level of sophisticated.
“We’re not sacrificing a virgin to the dragon,” Viktor said in exasperation.
“Well what would you do?!” the mayor demanded.
“I’m going to go talk to it,” Viktor said reasonably, and got up from his seat and went to do just that.
