Summary
Newly appointed to the rank of Wingleader, Xaden Riorson only has one goal for his third and final year at Basgiath: Get all the marked ones bonded and graduated so they might stand a fighting chance against the true evil lurking at Navarre’s borders. The only problem is that Violet Sorrengail, his enemy’s youngest daughter, has also joined the Rider’s Quadrant this year. He doesn’t know why she’s here, what her plans are, or if he can trust her. All he knows is that he can’t seem to stay away.
This is a rewrite of my previous fic “The Wingleader – Xaden’s POV”. It’s a Fourth Wing retelling from Xaden’s POV with new Iron Flame updates. It follows the dialogue and chapter timeline from Fourth Wing with my own interpretations and theories of Xaden’s actions and feelings.
Do not read if you haven’t finished both FW AND IF - major spoilers from BOTH books throughout!

Basically what happened in this version: most people survived, Andarna left to join the rest of the Irids, Violets squad graduated, Xaden and Violet take their places as Duke and Duchess of Tyrrendor, and the squad is reunited as a battalion within the Tyrrish army, with Violet still serving while maintaining her royal duties.

“What are you doing?” Violet hisses down the bond, eyes narrowing as she shoots a glance over her shoulder at me.
“Reminding Tecarus that he can’t have you.”
It’s not a lie. It may not be my primary motivation, but it’s not a lie because every minute we spend here is another minute I worry about Tecarus doing all he can to collect her, just like he’s collected so many others. To him, she’s only a weapon, a tool, an oddity. And tomorrow, he wants her to perform parlor tricks to prove herself. I clench my jaw and slip my hand higher, thumb brushing the bare skin at her spine.
She shivers.
But then she twists out of my touch, turning back to Liam as she takes another sip of her wine, his eyes darting down to her mouth as she swallows. “You sure it’s Tecarus you’re reminding?”
