(Work title from the song Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling because it reminds me of everyone’s favorite thalassophobia sphere!)
Bart wasn’t alone.
He’d suspected it for months. He’d seen the giant ship when he’d surfaced after the huge earthquake a while ago, though it didn’t seem like there were any survivors at first. But then he saw things that were strange, out of place. It was inconspicuous at first. Wounds on some creatures that couldn’t have been made naturally, wounds that looked like they were made by a knife. Things like Stalker teeth or limestone outcrops disappearing from the location he’d seen them mere days before. At first he’d thought it was the last of his sanity slipping away.

Summary
Peter was skittish when it came to physical contact when they just started to see each other. As James it didn't bother him, their relationship had been mostly for satisfaction and Peter leaving quickly after their little moments together didn't particularly matter to him.
When he jumped to Elias however and they started to become something…more than just flings, it became obvious that Peter craved physical contact but that he was unable or simply too conditioned to accept it. As if the lonely would strike him dead the moment Elias held his hand or linked their arms together.
The most fascinating aspect of it was seeing it happen in real time, the way Peter would clearly shift and move as if to reach out but would shudder and retreat. It wasn't only about human touch, no, it was more than that. It was denying himself simple comforts, such as fabrics to run his fingers through, wearing clothes that didn't bring him any comfort.
It was all the small things that piled up and painted a picture about the sort of childhood he had and the issues Peter didn't want to really consider. -

That is, until their recklessness attracts the wrong kind of attention.
Currently rated mature for some violent scenes and spicy moments, but that rating may change. Contains original characters but no OC/canon shipping.
