Summary
This story takes place during the moments we're not shown on screen after The Hug in The Lying Detective. I would like to think that something along the lines of what I've written here took place before they went to get Sherlock some birthday cake.
“I wish I was better at this. You deserve better from me.”
John had regained his breath, and the tears that he’d finally let fall in front of another person began to dry on his cheeks. His nose was red, and his eyes were still full. He sniffed pointedly in that way he has; an attempt to rein in all of the pieces of himself that he’d just let me see. John Watson: Always trying to hold himself together as he was crumbling to bits.

This is a story about John and Sherlock's life with Rosie and the other people in their lives that they love. Each chapter is an anecdote about a day of significance in their life. Some are joyous, some are sexy, some are tragic, and some are very sad. But they all emphasize that life is indeed a box of chocolates.
All of the specified dates signify something important that happened to me. All the rest are approximations of instances of the same significance in which the dates escape me.
I'm American. This work is not Brit-picked or Beta'd. All mistakes are mine. I also did my best with medical accuracy and anything to do with London and her locales. Summary
It is not working. He is a welcome presence, but he is miserable.
As their personal and professional relationship slowly unravels under an intangible strain, a case forces Sherlock and John to spend the night inside the London Aquarium.

Summary
John recognizes the signs - Sherlock goes from flirting to panic attack near-instantaneously while working on a case. Once John gets them home, Sherlock apologizes for how his past experience with rape has left him unable to provide the kind of relationship John obviously wants. Lots of delicious tension and angst lead John to propose an experiment: Sherlock can tie him up and explore as much or as little of his body as he likes, no obligation to continue. Sherlock finds he rather likes being able to manipulate his flatmate into a frenzy of need, and finds that perhaps he isn't as broken as he thought . . .
(Part of my "John and Sherlock's Kinky First Times" series of shorts, all revolving around the same basic theme of "John and Sherlock get sexy for the first time and also discover some kinky stuff about each other.")
