Summary
Sonic was tired, weary and broken. Thrust into the role of king far sooner than he’d like, his fathers unfortunate and untimely passing weighing heavily on his shoulders. His loyal Knight Lancelot, whom he grew up with, was there every step of the way. From helping him with the abundance of paperwork to telling people to back off of him, he was grateful for his friend.
But it wasn’t enough. He was tired of this life. Long gone are the days of running free in the fields and sparring with Lance in the lavender. The days of no responsibilities left far in the past. He has a kingdom that relies on him now, and with opposing kingdoms waging wars against him- he’s far too young to lead after all- he needs to get out of there.
Or, Sonic is overwhelmed and makes deals with Fae

Summary

Prince-turned-servant Sonic's only crime was falling for a king on the palace stairs and for existing. On the run from his stepfather, he agrees to a Faustian bargain to escape. Sheltered in his lover's kingdom, Sonic must win back his lover's heart or pay the price.
King Shadow will stop at nothing to find the prince he loves. While seeking his lost love, he rescues a voiceless stranger with a flair for dramatics. Although disinterested at first, it becomes clear to Shadow that his new jester is more than what he seems; and Shadow finds himself torn between two conflicting loves.
The choices they make will define them. And the silence between will do the rest.

Summary
Sonic's paws started sweating under her gloves. Why was Shadow looking at her like that? Why was the air around them getting hotter? She rubbed her palms over her pants in hopes of getting rid of the icky feeling settling inside her.
She chuckled nervously, rubbing at her nape as she asked, "What's with all the starin'? Do I got something on my face?"
The dark hedgehog leaned in, crimson eyes narrowing as she stared at Sonic. Finally, she uttered a simple, "You're an idiot." Leaning in, Shadow pressed a chaste, almost nervous kiss to Sonic's cheek.
Or: Sonic gets incredibly nervous around Shadow, and she has no clue why.
OR OR: 5 times Sonic doesn't know why she's so nervous around her rival, and one time she finally realizes.
