Ren’s blood runs cold. He’s never heard any of them talk about what happened in such a matter of fact way, as though it was a vacation they all took together. For him, that time was a horror. Every day he woke up and betrayed the people he loved, and every day he told himself he wouldn’t ever do it again.
It’d been awful. He’d cried himself to sleep more times than he could count, had felt sick with the loneliness and the weight of all the mistakes he’d made, and yet he hadn’t been able to break the cycle on his own, no matter how much he tried.
To hear them talking about it as though it was something fun makes something cold and cruel rise up within him.

Cahara leans back in his chair, watching Enki pace back and forth across the room. He’s been at it for a good ten minutes, at least. “Sorry?” he offers.
Enki whips around, pointing a long crooked finger in his direction. “Don’t,” he warns. “Don’t speak.”
Cahara flashes him a winning smile. “I thought the entire point of this meeting was for me to speak.”
“That was before I knew it was you,” he stresses.

Cahara brings the girl to the dark altar. She becomes the God of Fear and Hunger. She brings Cahara to the tenth level.
He doesn’t die immediately.
