After a brief conversation with Dr. Strange and Loki, they send Peter back in time two weeks before his trip to MoMA gets interrupted by the earth being invaded.
Peter with his excellent 10/10 people skills uses his humour to help everyone's mood become better, ultimately changing their fates. It's as they say that laughing is the best medicine. Spider-Man makes sure to utilize that as best he can.
and the purple alien? he's not impressed, but who cares what he thinks?
