Summary
“You are better than this.” Eileen Shamsi said as a farewell.
Javadi felt a flash of equal parts bravery and anger and she raised her voice, just so, before her mother could leave. “Yes I am, and I am exactly where I want to be; learning from the professionals in this ER, who are just as talented as the surgeons up there in your ivory tower.”
Or
Javadi isn’t having a great time, but McKay is there to pick up the pieces.

Summary
“Come on, kid,” someone says, rubbing his sternum with bruising fingers. Dennis desperately tries to swat the hands away, the bone already sensitive from the weight of the patient from just moments ago. “Open your eyes, Whitaker, come on. Look at me. Open your eyes.”
He twitches, his limbs flexing in odd and tight angles as he tries to expel the memory of the pain. He tries to speak, not to answer the question but to ask for help, help, anyone, anyone at all, his mom or one his brothers or the youth pastor who gives him bandages when no one is looking, just, God, please, please—
The best Dennis can manage is a deep gurgle from his throat.
*
When he gets seriously injured after an altercation with a patient, Dennis is forced to reveal parts of himself he would rather keep hidden.

Summary
Trinity and Dennis have been roommates for three months, and she wouldn't say that they're friends.
Sure, they spend all of their time together. And yes, they watch The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives religiously every week and chat about it at work. And yeah, fine, she'll meal prep them both lunch while he fixes her sink, but they're not friends. And that's how it'll stay.
Until the day a patient comes into the ER and Dennis refuses to treat him. Not out of revulsion. Not because the guy’s an ass.
Because Dennis is terrified.
And fear has a funny way of cracking things open.
