Summary
Forgiveness was a trap.
It had been from the very beginning.
It was nothing more than a demand hiding behind an unsubtle curtain.

Summary
After Verso loses his family to a house fire, he takes up a position as lightkeeper in an attempt to flee from both his grief and the prying eyes of Parisian high society.
Lumière is as sleepy as little towns come, and its folk are as kind and curious as one would expect. The lighthouse itself sits just out of town, on a little cliff jutting out from the coast of Bretagne. It’s an old place in a state of obvious disrepair, but thankfully the town’s engineer Gustave is as capable as he is handsome.
The perfect place for Verso, even though the sea starts whispering to him in his family’s voices at night. Grief can do that to a man, he thinks.
But when Gustave warns him not to listen to those that call for him in the darkness with a haunted look in his eyes, Verso realizes there is more at play in Lumière, and that his peaceful lightkeeper escape might turn out not to be so peaceful after all.

Summary
One quiet winter afternoon, a strangely-dressed man with an aureole over his head falls out of the sky.
Or: Verso thought that it would all end after he expelled Maelle from the Canvas and put the Soul Fragment to rest. Fate seems to have other ideas. Finding himself somewhere else entirely, he has to deal with the unbearable chains of life weighing on him once more.

Summary
It happens too fast.
A moment ago everything was well, and the expedition — brave, good people, believing in their duty and their oath — was moving through the half-frozen caves, lighting the way with their chroma lamps. Monoco and Noco followed, arguing about who is the best Searcher between them two, and Verso — being in surprisingly good mood, Verso was walking beside them, teasing them both and purposefully adding fuel to the fire. Noco, the wise old man that he was, only laughed at his little jabs; Monoco, to their utter delight, was getting more and more agitated.
Everything was well.
He should have known that “well” never lasts.
Or: Old Noco does something reckless. Neither Monoco nor Verso take it too well.

Summary
“Mark me,” Verso demanded against Gustave’s mouth. “I want to feel it tomorrow.”
Gustave’s eyes flashed. Then his mouth was on Verso’s throat, teeth scraping, biting, and the sharp pain made Verso gasp.
Gustave’s nails raked down Verso’s back, scratching hard enough to draw blood. Marking him, like he wanted . Claiming him.
And Verso loved the violence. Loved the proof that this was real, that Gustave wanted him enough to leave marks. The Fracture Zone is where people are sent to die.
Painters and Writers, enemies for five hundred years, embark on expeditions to reach the Monolith. None survive—until Expedition 33.
Gustave Virlogeux has lost almost everything, and his grief has turned to rage.
Verso Dessendre is already dead inside. The perfect weapon, buried so deep under control he can't remember what feeling looks like.
They've been circling each other for years: enemies on the battlefield, strangers in the dark.
Until one desperate choice binds them in forbidden magic, and suddenly they can't hide anymore.
They'll learn that some connections are stronger than hatred, and that some enemies were never meant to be enemies at all.Bookmarked by Kaniner
