This isn’t joy, but it’s reaching for something close to it.
Speculation for that scene in s08e10.

Kaylee wonders if the Captain thinks she don't see the way he's been looking at Simon, thinks she completely misses the looks they've been sharing, or how the Captain, when he thinks she's not looking, looks at Simon and then looks at her and then burns.

Summary
Perhaps this was when it started – our story. When Draco looked at my wand like a little boy in front of a Pick n’ Mix; his look was so hungry, and for a split-second I felt hotly uncomfortable and then I was doomed.
“Hey, where’s your wand?” I wondered aloud suddenly, as if why he was trying to jam his hands in the microwave wasn’t odd enough.

Summary
"D'you know Eddie?" Buck asks. His eyes are huge and earnest. It's not often these days that Eddie gets to see him this unguarded. Just needed to get him stoned out of his mind on painkillers, apparently. He's probably got a prescription in that stack of papers Eddie took. Maybe Eddie can run out and fill it for him while he sleeps. "He's my best—my best friend."
Eddie's heart does something traitorously squishy that he hopes doesn't show on his face. "Feeling's mutual, bud. Come on, lie down, sleep it off for a little bit, okay?"
-
Or: Buck confesses something he doesn't mean to while on painkillers. Eddie spirals about it.

Summary
“Eddie,” Maddie says. “I know our kids are different ages, and our situations are different, but — it kind of sounds like you need something else besides your kid and work, too.”
Well, I used to have a best friend, Eddie thinks, then pushes the thought away. “I … I have other things. But Chris and the job are definitely the most central right now.”
"You know, you can’t put yourself last all the time, Eddie.” She laughs a little. “Straight from my therapist’s mouth to your ears! Ooh — you know what? I’ve got a great idea.”
“Oh?”
“You should come to book club. It’s something I do with my parent friends. We take turns hosting, and it’s my turn!”
Sometimes the best part about reading is getting to learn more about yourself.

Summary
"Should we — should we tell Bobby?" Buck keeps his eyes straight ahead as he pushes their grocery cart through the produce section.
"Tell Bobby what?" Eddie asks distractedly as he darts off to grab the particular brand of cheddar that Chris likes, dumping it in the cart.
"About — you know. Our change in status. Or, maybe it goes straight to HR? I think we tell Bobby first, though."
Eddie puts his hand on the cart handle and stops it rolling. "Our change in status," he says slowly.
He reaches over and presses a fingertip to the spot where Buck's neck joins with his shoulder. He's touching Buck's St. Christopher medal necklace chain, Buck realizes, which is kind of a weird thing to do out of the blue, in the middle of the produce section, but then Eddie pulls back and turns away, starts searching through the avocados.
"I don't think we have to report anything to HR," he says in a completely normal and casual tone of voice. "It's not like we got married."
Buck is so happy to have Chris and Eddie back in his life, and so confused about what it all means.

Summary
Eddie tries to peek out the windows to see what's out there as he approaches the door, but Buck moves to obstruct his view. "Hey, uh. So. I found … uh, this piece of furniture, on Marketplace. And if you hate it, it's fine. No biggie! I just … it was such a good deal!"
They don't need more furniture. In fact, they actively need less, so Buck wouldn't buy something new without a really good reason.
"Okay, Buck, I trust you. What did you get?"
"It's … I guess, I mean, um. Well, I think you should just come see." Buck turns around before Eddie can reply and heads out the front door.
Eddie stays hot on his heels for barely even one square of sidewalk, stopping in his tracks when he sees the bright red metal frame that's strapped down in Buck's truck bed. It's upright, so Eddie has a clear view of what Buck picked up for them.
It's bunk beds.
Buck and Eddie try to process their grief about Bobby's death and figure out what they mean to each other, all while squeezed into Eddie's two-bedroom house.

Summary
'Buck,' Eddie says again, closer now and Buck turns around at last, 'why are you here?'
'I wanted to be here for May,' he says, 'I'm not here to cause trouble.'
'Bit late for that. I haven't seen you in five years, Buck. You ignored me for five years.'
Buck doesn't answer, just fixes Eddie with an inscrutable look.
'So you’re gay now?' he says, flatly.
Eddie shrugs, 'sure.'
'What does that mean?'
'Gay, bi, queer. It doesn’t matter.'
'If you fuck dudes now it matters,' spits Buck.
'Why?’ Eddie throws back, ‘because I never fucked you?'
*
After Bobby died Buck left LA without a word. Five years later Eddie bumps into him at May and Ravi’s wedding. Is it too late for them to find their way back to each other? Do they want closure or something more?
