Summary
For the first time in longer than he cares to remember, Bucky is free to do as he pleases. No mandatory check-ins, no therapy, no world to save. He decides to go on a lone road trip to actually see the land he's shed so much blood to protect.
His first stop? The home of a disgraced acquaintance turned barely tolerable ally that he hasn't heard from since they parted ways five months ago.
The issue? His short visit may be longer than expected.

Statue: Evaluated as Unstable/ConditionalSummary: Subject represents one of several post-Serum initiatives designed to replicate Steve Rogers/Captain America. Unlike gamma-based trials (see: Banner, Bruce ), this experiment sought to produce a viable successor through cloning procedures and controlled upbringing.
OR: Unknown to John, Sam and Bucky find out John is actually a clone of Steve. And an unsuccessful one that that. Meanwhile, John can't figure out why Bucky is starting to treat him differently. Nicer. He has to admit, he likes it. Likes what things are turning into, what they could be.

Summary
Yeah, maybe John doesn’t look like Steve. But from behind, when he sits pressed against Bob, the scene looks a little too familiar. Familiar enough that Bucky needs to blink repeatedly and get up to go to his room before it gets too much.
They aren’t him and Steve. They simply aren’t. Yet Bucky feels his stomach churn.
Maybe it’s the fact that Bucky understands Bob— that he understands what it feels like to be turned into a weapon against your will, only to be valued if you obey the orders. Maybe it’s simply that he still isn’t over how familiar John looks when he stands under the right lighting. But at that moment, he decides to pay attention, even if from afar, to make sure Bob doesn’t get hurt, to make sure that he doesn’t get left behind after trusting too much.

5 times Bucky watches John and Bob grow closer and feels protective over Bob. And 1 time he realizes that he got it all wrong.
