Who can resist merman Rafayel? Certainly stronger hearts and minds than I.
I saw a writing prompt that said "Sirens who learn to use sign so that they don't involuntarily drown their friends," and immediately turned it to "A siren who is trying rather hard to drown you, but unfortunately for him you are unable to hear." Main Character is born profoundly deaf and has never experienced sound. I am hard of hearing myself but it has developed over time rather than from birth. I hope I have treated this subject with the respect it deserves! Please let me know your thoughts.

The way you laugh, the warmth in your thoughts, the moments you imagine things you’d never say aloud. And they listen. They shouldn’t, but they do.
You notice the way they look at you — too intent, too knowing — and instead of pulling back, you let them. You meet their gazes a little too long, you tease, you wonder what they’d do if they knew what you were thinking, too.
