Whatever Tommy said in that interaction seemed to make Buck feel small, and Eddie loathed people who made Buck feel small.
"I just. I talked to Maddie about it already, so I'm not like, shutting people out I just..." Buck shook his head. "It's hard to explain."
Eddie gnawed at the corner of his lip. "Even to me?” he thought selfishly.

Summary
Eddie stiffened. “What?” he asked.
Elaine looked up from where she was taking notes. “Buck. From what you’ve told me it seems like he’s a very integral part of both yours and Christopher's life.”
“Buck’s just my best friend,” Eddie clarified.
Elaine raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t say otherwise. I simply meant to point out you have an easier time allowing your friends in rather than romantic partners. You made that connection on your own. Is there something different about your relationship with Buck?”
“No,” Eddie snapped before he could think.

Summary
“You two must be… pretty close then?”
“Oh, yeah. He’s my best friend! And my partner.”
“Oh!” Understanding flooded her features as she smiled. “I see, you’re partners!”
Now, Buck was confused. “I’m so sorry, did I not mention that? Weird. It’s usually one of the first things I mention.”
Mrs. Bellevue chuckled. “Oh, you’re a bragger, huh? My husband can be the same way.”
“Oh, did you and your husband work together? Or I guess he could be a teacher here.”
Mrs. Bellevue appeared lost again, blinking at Buck. “I’m sorry?”
“Well, I brag about Eddie being my partner… I assumed that’s what you were talking about?”
“Yes…?”
Buck was officially at a loss.
OR: Buck goes to a parent-teacher conference, Eddie is late, some misunderstandings are had. It all works out in the end.

“Christopher, seriously -“
“- not to mention the way you look at Buck is super duper gay dad, and that’s not a bad thing! It’s great! We love Buck! So can both of you just sit down and eat and admit you love each other already?”
Buck let out a punched-out noise from beside Eddie at Chris’ words, moving towards the seat as if that was the only thing that would make him stop talking. He was probably right, so Eddie did the same.
Satisfied that the two men were sat, Chris clapped his hands together. “Bon apple teet.”
“Bon appétit, Chris. Not apple- ok he’s leaving. Cool.”--
Chris is sick of his dad being in love with Buck and not doing anything about it, so he decides to make it impossible for them to avoid.

Summary
Being back in LA had its ups and downs. Mostly ups, but the main downside was watching his dad and Buck dance around each other like two birds doing a mating dance for the last six months. Now since Buck was living in their house, there weren't enough rooms for them all to have their own. So brilliantly the two men decided they'd share a room. And a bed. The kicker: they weren't together.
Don't get him wrong, Chris was pretty convinced they were lying to him in the beginning. Then he remembered how stupid his dads could be and realized they probably weren't together. Eight years. Two more months of this and he might have to lock them in a closet together until they figure it out.
Highschool was fun. He had friends and classes he liked. Unfortunately, said friends were also quite insufferable on occasion. He sat down in art class, his friend sitting next to him, a smile on her face. "Any updates?"
She'd been far too invested in Buck and Eddie's love life since they met in middle school. "Buck flirted with dad and he walked into a wall." Chris sighed.
Or,
Chris's friend is very invested in Buddie -

Summary
“That’s not stupid,” Buck said. “Feeling overwhelmed, even when nothing looks wrong on the outside—I know the feeling. I’ve felt lost so many times in my life, and it’s okay to feel the same. Your dad felt that. You’re not broken, Chris.”
Chris’s vision started to swim again—not from pain this time, but from that awful kind of vulnerability that made you feel like your insides were being dissected under a spotlight. Like they're being torn apart and open again and torn apart all over—-an endless cycle and Chris was so tired of feeling it.
“Then why does it feel like I am? What’s wrong with me, Buck?” He said helplessly, on the edge of screaming it from the top of his lungs.
Buck didn’t answer right away. He looked like he wanted to, though. Chris watched his mouth twitch with a thousand unsaid things, but he stayed quiet for a moment longer. Just rested his palm fully on Chris’s leg, grounding, steady. Buck brought his forehead to his and Chris brought a hand to his shirt and gripped it tightly.

Summary
Eddie’s been in Texas for about two and a half months when Buck answers an incoming video call with a grin on his face, one that quickly falls when he sees the look on Eddie’s.
His eyebrows are scrunched together, lips pursed as he chews on the inside of his cheek. He looks anxious – scared, almost, and Buck’s internal Eddie Alarms are screaming.
“Hey, Eds, everything okay?” He asks immediately, leaning forward in the kitchen seat where he’d sat to prop his tablet up.
“Huh? Yeah, yeah, no, everything’s fine, everybody’s alright, just-” He pauses, shrugging his shoulders, but it doesn’t ease any of the tension from his frame.
“Just?” Buck prompts when Eddie doesn’t continue.
“I think- there might-” He trails off again with a groan, rubbing his eyes roughly with his fingertips.
“Okay, you’re starting to scare me, Eddie.” Buck is already mentally calculating how to fit a plane ticket into his budget for this week, committed to cutting down on his takeout budget and maybe cancelling a few subscriptions, but Eddie shakes his head.
Or: A few months after Eddie moves to Texas, he and Buck share a revelatory phone call.
