Cal chuckles. “What did you just say about my boundless optimism? Yeah. I think so.”
You poke your elbow to his ribs and try to hold back a wavering grin. BD chirps at you.
Cal works with the electrosword as you watch from next to him, arms almost brushing together when he moves. Cal seems genuinely happy to be tinkering and you’ve completely forgotten your original intention of following the repairs to see how he does it. The new objective is to determine how often is too often to glance at his smiling face.
After searching for months, the Mantis' crew finds a Jedi hiding on Bracca. The new acquaintance is not what you expected and he leads you to wonder how selfish are you allowed to be.

Summary
A Raydonian mechanic with a murky history - especially to her - and a Mandalorian on the run from the New Republic. Her getaway plans get complicated when she finds the bounty hunter as her stowaway, and in hot pursuit of them both is Crimson Dawn. What the organization’s enigmatic leader, the Countess, wants from either of them is a mystery, but while some old acquaintances may hold the answers, this duo united by happenstance must learn to bend their own rules to solve it, move on from their respective pasts, and determine a future for themselves.
Takes place post season 2 - I started it before BOBF was released, so it exists between those two entities. Some pretty standard tropes here - mechanic reader, mildly traumatized reader, they-fall-in-love-but-god-knows-they’ll-hate-each-other-a-lot-before-they-ever-say-it Mando/reader dynamic - but heavily steeped in as accurate as possible Star Wars lore because I’m a shameless nerd and I like things to be true to the canon/mythology. Lots of foundation from throwaway storylines or characters from mainstream Star Wars media that is built upon and developed with my own original characters. If that all sounds like your cup of tea, come onboard the feels roller coaster.

Katara felt all the hair on the back of her neck rise when he made eye contact with her. She knew those eyes no matter how much she tried to forget them.
In the past few days, he had found a way to sink to a new low in Katara's eyes. It was one thing for Zuko to create a fake life in a remote Earth Kingdom village, and it was completely another thing to become a common criminal. Katara didn't care what kind of explanation he would come up with.
She had people to heal, and Zuko's drunken, thieving antics would not get in her way. That was easy to say. Even though she wanted to leave him alone, she couldn't.
