To Ilya’s horror, Shane’s big doe eyes are glassy when he drops his hands back to his lap. Ilya’s heart drops to his stomach.
“No, no moya lyubov, no sorries.” Ilya straightens up and rushes to stand by Shane’s side. He cannot stand the sight of a teary-eyed Shane Hollander. Ilya cradles Shane’s face in his hands delicately, thumbs brushing over freckles that have darkened beautifully over the course of the past week spent in the sun. “Ya tebya lyublyu, Shane. I love you, yes? It is never chore to take care of you. You are feeling overwhelmed; I want to help. Is my duty as boyfriend, sweetheart.”
