    Summary

Now, Phainon knew he’d always been a large chimera, even when he was young. But this chimera practically matched him in size, standing just a below eye level– not that it mattered. Golden eyes seemed to pierce right through him, and if Phainon had been a lesser alpha, he probably would have whimpered. And maybe pissed himself, too.

That size wasn’t for nothing, either. If he let his eyes wander down– which he didn’t, truly, he didn’t– he’d see a rippling expanse of pure, tanned muscle, rather pathetically half-covered by rich-looking red fabrics.

The scent was a little sweet for his expectations, but this was undoubtedly the alpha Hyacine had warned him of. Warned he was, indeed, but something about this alpha made Phainon want to play nice, anyway.

    “What a disappointment.”

With those arrogant words, spilled from plump lips, every thought of Phainon’s ground to a halt. His eyes widened, but he hadn’t a moment to spare for indignation before a fist, adorned in sharp, glinting gold, flew towards his face.

Or a feral chimera was picked up by the Okheman Research Institute for rehabilitation... and definitely for not for courting the 'alpha' Kremnoan leader.

    Summary

Alhaitham really liked his routine. It was easy to follow and predictable. Everything was always in the right place, where it should be.

When he returned home today, he expected the usual dinner with a side of playful banter.

    He didn't expect this.

Kaveh was standing in the living room, surrounded by suitcases and boxes. He was filling one of them with what little books he had, taking them one by one off of their shared bookshelf.

Alhaitham felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice cold water over him.

He changed his mind. Today was a bad day.

“Ah?” Ashveil blinked several times, trying to recollect his scattered mind. “I have. Wait, no, my bed is…” He leaned his head against the wall, closing his eyes as he took a deep breath. Oh wow, he was so out of it already. “I sleep inside the fridge.”

“...” Blade opened his mouth, but he didn’t respond to him.

Ashveil cleared his throat. “I’ll explain later—”

But Blade interrupted him. “The ground it is then.”

“I can give you my loneliness, my darkness, the hunger of my heart; I am trying to bribe you with uncertainty, with danger, with defeat.”
—“Two English Poems,” Jorge Luis Borges

Ashveil smiles. But it isn't the devilish, carefree smile he'd had before, nor is it the warm, goofy grin he'd had in their conversations since reuniting. It is mirthless, distant, and empty. He's been through so much… But then again, haven't they all?
