The lights flicker.
Mike should call Nancy, he should call his sponsor, he should call Lucas, he should call Dustin, he should call Jonathan, he should call Max, he should call Jane, and he should call his mom.
He should call anyone for help, tell them it’s getting bad again, call for anyone except for who he does-
“Will?” He calls out, voice shaking, strangled, a question and a prayer.
The room glows.or: Will Byers died in 1983, Mike Wheeler lost it. Ten years later he's talking to the lights again (nothing is really as it seems)

I wrote this in early 2025, then started to edit it to match the season, and now I'm taking it back to how I originally wrote it because Will Byers deserves everything. If you can't bear to read anything that feels like s5 at all, I recommend skipping to chapter 17.

‘What do you do with so much beauty once you have it?’ Mike asked, the glint in his eye betraying the reverent tone of his voice.
Will looked at him. The morning sun was illuminating the side of his face, and Will could see all the tiny hairs along his silhouette, fine as filigree down his nose and growing coarser over his top lip and chin.
‘Someone very wise asked me that, once,’ Mike continued. ‘Years ago. But I didn’t have an answer, then.’
