Everything is happening at once: Milly is sobbing, and Wolfwood is laughing and patting her back, and the baby in Meryl’s arms starts squirming and babbling at the sight of Vash, a steady stream of mostly nonsense drawing the attention of all four adults around her.
“Holy shit,” Wolfwood says at the sight, “When did the insurance girls get a–” He cuts off, eyes roaming over the child, clearly taking in her tan skin and dark rumpled hair, the set of her mouth and the shape of her nose, and the way Vash immediately takes her at the fussing, settling her on his hip and shushing her gently.
“Vash,” Wolfwood says, “Vash, I need you to explain. Right now.”
Or, Wolfwood returns from the dead and there's a surprise waiting for him.

Her braided sandy blond locks dangled from her shoulder, swaying lightly to her movements before, and she accessed Nicholas with dainty almond-shaped eyes of rich brown that Nicholas swore he also saw in the mirror. If he deluded himself enough, he might see a spark of recognition in them, like he was a toy she had long lost and found again.
What threw Nicholas off-kilter, in all honesty, was her brother.
Even if it was only his head visible, the boy was a split image to the young Nicholas before the bloodied corpses knocked on his doorstep—all unkempt black hair and permanent thin line of the lips. If the old woman (their grandmother, maybe?) told Nicholas some wormhole had stolen Nico from six years ago and dumped him here, he’d fucking believe her.
But no, what tethered Nicholas to logic and reasons were the boy’s blue, blue eyes that followed through Nicholas’s dreams like a persistent lover.
Nicholas intends to search for his angel even to the corner of the world. Said angel's children find him first, however, and from there, he makes promises.
