Summary
Danny's life had always been strange. Mostly because his parents were famous (and sort of crazy) folklorists who wholeheartedly believed the stories they studied. Partially because of their weird feud with Danny's favorite uncle, who spent most of his time traveling and always, without fail, visited Danny on his birthday.
Even so, it got a whole lot stranger on his fourteenth birthday. And not because his uncle finally followed through on his promise to take Danny traveling with him.

Summary
Danny had never seen Clockwork sleep before. Or act sleepy. Or even tired, except in an ‘I'm tired of your crap’ kind of way. So, the addition of a massive, curtained bed to three main room of Long Now, his lair, seemed distinctly out of character.
Out of theme, too, unless he was aiming for some kind of extended bedtime-based pun.

Summary
Valerie walked to Fentonworks.
Yes, it would have been easier to fly on her hoverboard. Probably, it would have been safer, too. Not to mention, the Fentons would regard her more favorably as a mysterious fellow ghost hunter than as the girl who’d dumped their son. And, yeah, they both knew who she was thanks to– to– Thanks to her identity being revealed, but just because someone knew something to be true didn’t mean that their perception of facts couldn’t be influenced by context. Clothes, hair, makeup– None of those things changed who she was, but they changed how people saw her.
But the hoverboard would have been faster as well, and Valerie would do just about anything to delay the moment she had to tell them.
She wished she didn't know. She wished she'd never found out, never investigated, never asked. She wished she hadn't been answered. She wished Fentonworks was father from the cemetery.
“You're stalling,” whispered Phantom, over her shoulder, “and if you think I wish any louder, Desiree is going to show up.”

Summary
“So, this is, like, a formality? It’s just a ceremonial, symbolic thing?”
Clockwork sighed and Frostbite made a face. Danny felt his shoulders twitch up defensively. He liked both Frostbite and Clockwork, but together, they were a bit… much. Plus, Danny didn’t like getting unexpected visitors at school, no matter how much he liked them. He was supposed to be in Health right now. And even if people didn’t look in the basement very often, the custodian had an office here.
“No, Great One. It is more than a formality, otherwise we would not be so… diligent… in asking you to do this.”

“Stop it,” whispered Star, putting her foot on top of Paulina’s. “If you were going to freak out this much, you should have stayed home. Or at least not come to breakfast.”
“I don’t miss school. Or breakfast.” It was too important. The time before class was when rumors and information about what happened outside of school came to light.
Today, knowing the rumors would be *vital.*

Summary
“Alright, Vlad! I bet you a hundred bucks that I can reel in a bigger ghost fish than you! I'll even give you some of our Fenton Fishing Line!”
“Oh, Jack, I couldn't possibly take your money,” said Vlad, smoothly, playing with his plate of spaghetti. He hadn't, as far as Danny could tell, eaten any of it. “Let's do something else. Oh, I know. You remember what we used to do, back in college. Why don't we do that?”
“Jack,” started Maddie, “I don't think–”
“Ha! Wanting to relive your glory days, huh, Vladdie?” interrupted Jack. “I'll do it, but don't complain to me when I win! Ha!”
If Danny didn't feel obliged to watch Vlad like a hawk as long as he was anywhere near Fentonworks, he would have covered his face with his hands.

Finally, though, they came to a stop in front of a pair of arched double doors, etched with unfamiliar symbols.
“This location,” said Clockwork, making no move to open the door and let Danny see inside, “is quite possibly the one most dangerous to you.”
“Why?” asked Danny.
“Because it cannot be locked, and because of where it leads.”
“Why can’t it be locked?” asked Danny. “And where does it lead that’s that bad?”Series

Summary
“If the problem isn't time travel related,” said Danny, trying not to get too distracted by all the interesting gadgets they were passing by as they went deeper into the workshop, “then what is it?”
“What did Frostbite tell you the problem is?”
Danny huffed. “He said that my core and my body aren't developing at the same rate, so there's tension. But I don't know why they wouldn't be, unless it's a weird time thing.”
Clockwork looked over his shoulder at Danny. “Don't you? You can't think of any way in which you are different from other ghosts Frostbite may have treated in the past?”Series
