There was no moon, that night. Thick clouds covered the sky - no moon, no stars, no light. Sausage found that he rather liked the total darkness of it all, like someone had turned the world off for the night.
The grass crunched under his feet, dry and dead like all the lands around his home were. Crunch, crunch, crunch, it went. There wasn’t a sound to be heard, no creatures stirring or winds blowing. Just him and his footsteps breaking the silence.
Except . . . there. Something. Something not him.

Grian almost didn’t realize he had died until he opened his eyes again. Until he woke to a changed world. Or, well, a changed him.
It was just so quick. One hit - he dove forward, flaring his wings instinctually - two hits, and that was that. So ends the life of Grian, in a stupid woodland mansion being stupid and going first, being killed by stupid Vindicators.
Or; Grian revives - it isn't a painless experience.

Scott gives Jimmy so much gold that he doesn't really know what to do with it, and honestly? Jimmy had started to assume he just had more than even he could use - and Scott wore a lot of gold, so that was saying something.
There's a bit more to it than that, as he finds out.
Or; Giving gold as a gift means something special in Elven culture, Jimmy doesn't know this.

It was for this reason that Jimmy usually took the utmost care to not get caught out while the sun was setting. He watched the sky always and booked it back home the second the sun even inched towards the horizon.
This was a very effective strategy, all things considered. What really ruined it was falling asleep.

If you were to ask Scott when he was born, you’d probably get a shrug and a vague hand wave. You might assume he was being contrite, or trying to uphold some aura of mystery. In all honesty, Scott had no clue. One day he didn’t exist, and the next he did. One day he was alone, and the next he wasn’t. Time was difficult for him; his birth was even worse.
Truthfully, he hadn’t even realized that was at all odd until Tommy, with all his bluster and boldness when stepping onto personal topics, had asked for his birthday. He had been very upset with the answer, and suddenly Scott’s birthday had been assigned as the day he crash landed on their planet.
Turns out, that wasn’t the only wrong thing about his birth.
