Summary
Hermione Granger is adopted into the Parkinson home at a young age because of a Ministry initiative to collect all muggleborn children after their first accidental magic. Her life isn't bad, but it isn't great.
The winter after graduation from Hogwarts, Duchess Narcissa Malfoy announces she is holding a ball, and invites all eligible young ladies to attend. Rumor has it that she's trying to marry off her son, Draco, who graduated from Durmstrang.
Hermione knows who Draco is. She's known about him for most of her life, but they've only met once. She makes a wish that leads her on a path to him.
