A COMPLETE REWRITE & OVERHAUL
Gendry Waters has two problems: he's fallen for a girl he's never met (his online penpal DanceswithWolves), and he's just been assigned to partner with General Stark's daughter—guaranteed to be an entitled nightmare who skated through Ranger school on her family name.
Arya Stark also has two problems: everyone assumes she's only a Ranger because of her father, and she's hopelessly hung up on Motorhead87, the mysterious online friend who makes her laugh harder than anyone she's ever met in person.
When they meet at a bar right before Arya reports to her new unit, sparks fly—until Gendry opens his mouth about "entitled legacy kids." Come Monday morning, they're about to discover that sometimes the person you're falling for online and the person you can't stand in real life are one and the same.

Summary
It's the week of Thanksgiving in the U.S. and since I miss these type of challenges from ye old Tumblr days, I decided to challenge myself to writing 5 days of Thanksgiving-related prompts to celebrate. They are as follows: Football, Feast, Family, Tradition, and Grateful, and will be anything from canon to modern AU.
I wrote a pneshot spinoff of this scene following Gendry and Arya throughout various Thanksgivings in their life. Let me know if anyone's interested!

They were friends.
And yeah, maybe the ring on his finger sort of burned when he looked at her sometimes, even though it was just for show, now.
It was just easier to let her keep thinking he was still married to Abby. Safer.
It raised less eyebrows about the nature of their friendship when the ring stayed on while he was at work, the weight on his finger reminding him not to say or do anything stupid.
It also made it a little less creepy when the pet names started slipping out.
