Mulder rolled over onto his back, and the geometry of a different body settled over him. The arch of his back, the curl of his lip, the sudden openness at the meeting of his thighs were all wrong, and all competed for his attention. He squeezed his eyes shut and blinked them open again: nothing had changed.
They’d come up against shape-shifters and mirror images and extreme powers of suggestion. Call it what you want, Scully, he thought. This is the real deal.On a good day, Mulder has trouble finding where he ends and Scully begins. Knowing this does not prepare him to wake up in her body.

Hey everyone! I started working on some of the Smutmas prompts you all shared, and when I tackled @Trustno1_xf's idea, I quickly realized it wasn’t going to fit into one chapter. What began as a single event has turned into a full story! I’ll post it in chapters, aiming to have it up before December 1st!
The Prompt: Mulder and Scully find themselves in a situation where they are pushed into intimacy, but Scully isn’t fully ready to take that step. Despite the deep feelings and undeniable attraction she has for him, doubt lingers, and she struggles to find the confidence to move forward. Sensing her hesitation, Mulder gently reassures her, consistently seeking her consent. His presence and words become a steadying force, reminding her of his unwavering feelings for her and ensuring she feels safe, respected, and understood. As the moment unfolds, Mulder remains a steadfast support, guiding her through the vulnerability and reminding her of her beauty and strength.

This is a series of four vignettes. There are many references to canon but they are all technically AUs: Three ways they didn't meet and one way they didn't end. The thesis for the whole story and where the title comes from is this line from the fourth chapter: "...No matter their fate in each final act, they will remain each the other's half, the same set of letters forming different words. The sum of their experience, each road not taken is an anagram, an alternate trajectory, a different interpretation of the same destiny."
