Summary
Charlie wasn’t what he himself would call happy, but he had a stable job, so he wouldn’t complain. And honestly, ten-hour days weren’t all that bad. What else would he spend his time on, otherwise? So he was fully expecting to continue his career, in one form or another, until retirement.
Then he died. In his own home, in his own bed.
Only afterwards, now with far more arms and a strange relationship with gravity, did he start panicking.
Not quite alive again and in a place he’s never heard of, Charlie isn’t sure what to make of a world he hadn’t thought of in more than a decade. Really, he’s lucky to be where he is. After all, if he’s never heard of Almia that means nothing bad happens there, right?

This was an odd little earworm of a plot bunny that wouldn't leave me alone. I'm much more inclined to shorter works, so it's a bit of a patchwork story.
Note on the tags. Petunia is... Petunia. She is not really 'Nice' or 'Good' but she's not 'Mean' or 'Evil' either. She's a selfish, self-centered woman with a brittle sense of self-esteem and a drive to be recognized as successful in her own right. I tagged it 'Good' because that was the closest I could get to 'not the horrible person from the book, but not really even close to a Molly'.
Also: I will not be tagging every single person who appears in the fic, only those with reoccurring roles. This is not a bashing fic and I've done as best as possible to give rational(ish) 'good intentions' explanations for the canon shenanigans.

Summary
Banette is a pokemon that exists to give meaning to abandoned and discarded things. They evolve from their first form, the ghostly Shuppet, by possessing abandoned dolls. But when an ill-treated boy dies alone, a friendly Shuppet he named Diya takes it upon itself to give his life meaning. Diya possesses and revives his body, becoming a Banette, and sets out to make the boy's dream of becoming a pokemon trainer come true.
Along the way Diya makes friends, fights some pokemon, finds a deep and abiding love of scarves, blurs the line between living and dead, accidentally becomes a necromancer, and to everyone's surprise even finds the time to accomplish its original goal and catch a pokemon or three.
