“Right.” Wilbur kicked his legs out beneath him, feeling the cool autumn air snake through the fabric of his trousers, raising the hair on his legs, alive. Without permission, he pictured himself pushing his body just a little bit forward, tipping off the end of the dock and slamming into the surface of the sea. It wasn’t even very deep here; he’d probably break his neck on the sandy bottom and drown with his body still only half-submerged.
He shook himself, ridding his brain of the image. He needed to stop doing that. He needed to stop it.
Childishly, he considered telling Tommy where his mind kept heading, describing to him the images of death that resurfaced whenever he allowed his thoughts to wander. What was it that Tommy had said to him, back in that accursed courthouse? You could have told me.

I enter the confession booth and take a deep breath “in the name of the father son and holy Spirit, bless me father for I have sinned it has been eight months and twenty seven days since my last confession” I pause and shake my head knowing the priest could not see me “I am about to sin, I am about to commit the sin of greed but I'm not sure if I would count it”
the priest says “maybe there is time to prevent this, how are you going to sin?” he says partially confused

They weren’t dumb, they all noticed the change in their boyfriend as soon as it happened. How Felix got distant, how he stopped eating, and whenever he did he’d make it his goal to eat in front of the others– mainly Chan– and then go to the bathroom for an extended period, the over an hour walks he took every day, how he never showed his wrists anymore.
They noticed the way he was constantly shaking, and one of them often woke up to him crying but they never said anything about it to him. Maybe they should have, but they didn’t think things through all the way.
