Summary
If Severus tried to pinpoint the exact time that he first heard it, he'd reckon it was when he was eight. When his father showed his true colours and hit him for hours. He learnt to appreciate the voices' presence; anytime they spoke, Severus knew a beating was near and avoided it sometimes.
When he climbed aboard the Hogwarts express and the voices began ringing through his head all the time. The voice became inconsistent, confusing Severus, from high pitched to low, young to old, female to male.
Severus had almost started understanding what the voices were saying by the time he got Sorted, but it wasn’t anything good. They spoke about how much they wanted Severus to feel pain and heartbreak.
Over the years, the voices stopped fluctuating as much and settled for male voices. In Mid-November 1976, though, Severus realized that not only was the voice finally stable, recognizable, and understandable… It was seducing Severus.
Taking over all his thoughts, telling Severus to believe, to trust Sirius, and simply step towards the Whomping Willow.
And Severus does, only to wake up the next morning to the seductive voice murmur “Moony.”
Right there, in the infirmary bed beside him.

There is a sub-section of the army whose purpose is to manage all communications to and from military service members in active duty. They are required to listen in on phone calls in case anybody says revealing or classified information.
Geralt Rivia is one such member. Normally, his job is fine, because he's supposed to just listen and say nothing, which works for him. One day, he listens in while Staff Sergeant Eskel Bryn calls home. He's instantly smitten.

Summary
In his time as a witcher, Geralt has killed just about everything that can be killed: monsters, beasts, constructs, men, even the undead can die again if you know the trick to it. Wraiths, he knows, are the lingering troubled spirits of people who died tragically, violently, unjustly and unavenged. Their unfair fate spawns in them a jealousy and hatred of everything living that quickly drives them mad and makes them dangerous and deadly, driven to torment those responsible for their plight. Usually he feels no more than a twinge of pity as he sends them off again with silver and fire, but then again usually they aren’t haunting him. Usually they aren’t Jaskier.
Geralt learns that Jaskier never made it off the mountain after the dragon hunt and, if that’s what it takes to appease the monster that now wears his face, neither will Geralt.
