Summary
“In the shadow of our father, our king is rather wanting,” Poseidon said. To his father, it was love that had brought him into this world. Love that a millennia-old god held for a mortal teenager. Only a god would call it love.
Yet, to save the girl he loved, he'd have to forsake his mortality and become one of them. “I cannot be merely a god in name – Lord of Tidal Bores of the Western Hemisphere, or some other minutiae. I must be something substantial. I am speaking of ascension."

Summary
Loyal to her dead mother, her sister, and herself, Rhaena claims no other family.
After her mother’s plea to leave Essos goes unanswered, she knows exactly who to blame for her death. Her resentment grows when she sees them together on the night of the funeral, and it culminates when Rhaenyra tries to use her to steal Baela’s birthright.
She’s not sure when Aegon became such an integral part of it, but she knows one thing with certainty – her father has gone uncontested for long enough.
