Alex bounces on the balls of his feet, ready to step in and wrap Henry in his arms, call him baby a million times, anything to take the hurt out of his eyes.
And then his mom surprises him, just a little. "Oh, honey. Come here."
Alex watches as his mother wraps her arms snugly around Henry -- Alex knows that hug, knows that Henry will be powerless to do anything other than hold her back. Henry's arms do wrap around her, and for just a moment, he tucks his forehead into Ellen's shoulder. A breath shudders out of him and his shoulders look like they curl in on themselves as he inhales again, shaky and watery.
