Summary
If this is what the bastard smells like on suppressants, then Ed can't even imagine how good he must smell normally. What would the full force of it do to Ed's body? To his psyche? It would probably feel amazing.
Ed hopes he smells half this good to other people when he presents, but knowing his luck he'll smell like dear old dad, not that he remembers what that smells like anymore. Probably it'll be some bullshit like... like... a train car when it's way too hot out. Rancid milk. Automail oil, too, even if he gets his limbs back, because there's no way he won't be cursed with this for the rest of his life. To be fair, he fucking deserves it.
Part of this whole thing has to be about acceptance, though, doesn't it? So, maybe he'll just... be what he is. For once.

Initially published 2009I use single quotes ‘to mark dialogue’ not “doubles”. This is a British publishing standard according to the Oxford Style Manual, and it's just my habit these days 😁

“The law also states any possible high-ranking unmated Omega must be mated to another member of the military for security reasons. And the last complementary law before The Mating Safety Law was revoked in 1800 due the progress achieved by pro-Omega movements, Complementary Law n. 62 of 1723 to be exact, states also that unmated Omega alchemists must be mated with an Alpha due to the high risks the career offers, the unique bond both designations tend to develop and the direct impact on an Omega’s health and recovery time, in case of incidents.”
The Brigadier-General said in an unsettlingly mild tone, every word perfectly enunciated and paused.
“If not able to secure a suitable bondmate by themselves, the Omega have the choice of being discharged or submitted to a Public Claiming, where any suitable Alpha can compete for the right of claiming them.”

It had been years, and Roy was haunted with guilt and longing, warring within himself. He didn't regret what he'd done, not really, but if he thought too hard, that deep feeling of guilt and shame filled his core so deeply, so thoroughly, nothing but falling into a bottle of whiskey could help him forget.

All omegas with alchemical ability go through the breeding program; ensuring a steady supply of alchemists with a guaranteed high potential is more efficient than picking various alchemists from all over the country.
It is only a matter of time when a bunch of suitable alchemists would be picked for Ed to choose. Mustang is fairly sure he’d be one of the candidates, but that doesn’t soothe his alpha’s rage at the thought of another alpha challenging him over Ed.
