    Mira found herself withdrawing in the little ways, and one evening after a fan meet where a comment about her ‘strong presence’ hit too close to home, Mira snapped at Rumi over something trivial before retreating to the bathroom. She shed her clothes and stared at herself in the mirror, tracing fingers over skin as she desperately willed herself to see what they saw:

    Beautiful.

    Whole.

    But all she felt was confusion, a deep-seated wrongness that twisted her insides.

    That night, she got them off with a desperation that bordered on anguish. Her release came in a weak shudder, unsatisfying as ever, but Rumi noticed and stroked Mira’s back soothingly. “Mira… if you ever want—”

    "No," Mira cut her off sharper than intended. “Sorry, I mean… I’m okay. Really.”

    But she wasn’t. Her desires burned, but the fear burned hotter, and in that quiet aftermath as their breaths synced for sleep, Mira lay there alone in her own skin, wondering if she’d ever bridge the gap between what she gave and what she so desperately yearned to receive.
