Summary
She never told Zoey or Mira, but there was always a faint buzz whenever she touched her blade. Kind of like the feeling of static when her leg fell asleep or Mira got a lucky hit on her elbow with her practice staff. It didn't hurt, but it was uncomfortable.
Rumi pushes back with all the strength she has. Gritting her teeth while she watches the demon force it down like she's not even there.
The buzz that usually comes when touching her sain-geom isn't what she feels, though.
Not at all.
Lightning shoots down her right arm. Like the burning core of each of the stars on her blade are dying inside her veins. Bursting and scorching anything in their paths as she watches her arm begin to dissolve into ash.

Rumi is begging.
Rumi is begging and Mira had wanted to be just that, be together, up until five minutes ago – her and Zoey had talked about it in detail, how both of their heart were beating for two people, how easy it had been to fall in love with their leader, how they wanted to try and be more, once they had restored the Golden Honmoon.
But Rumi lied to them.
And Mira finds she doesn’t want her anymore, not right now.
(She doesn’t know, not yet, what she will lose. Destiny laughs into her ears and it is the sound of someone gone mad.)
(They find her in the dirt by the tree, cold and pale and covered in blood.)

Within a month of their hiatus, the girls have bonded through conversations uncovering lies, exposing the harsh truths that were kept hidden, and shared tears. Then ultimately, leading to Mira and Zoey confessing their love for Rumi.
But somewhere else in the city another person suffers. Alone. Isolated. No parental-figure like Celine to guide her through life. No friends or lovers like Mira and Zoey to share the burden of being a half-demon. Esme was the only one who knew what kind of monster she was. And she planned to keep it that way.
(OR - a post-canon story of POLYTR/X, and an OC where the reality of being a half-demon without anyone knowing are explored. but an incident somehow leads to these 4 meeting, beginning the story where Esme learns how to love herself and others)
