Summary
Viktor prefers the lab to the socializing that Jayce takes so well to. He does not begrudge Jayce the spotlight; there is always more to discover, and at the lab no one will ask him to dance.

Summary
It just doesn't make sense to Jayce. How Viktor, his Viktor, his sweet, beloved Viktor, so soft-spoken and always so painfully kind, doesn't ever seem to accept this same kindness and love unless he is drunk or half-asleep or in some other state of mind where that brilliant brain of his is somewhat shut off, quieted. But how exactly is he to ask? Viktor always keeps himself neatly closed off, like a book on a shelf that is not to be opened.
But Jayce has to try, for both their sake. Only... will he like what he hears?
Consider this a character study with tons of headcanons that I am not even sure apply to my perceptions of their characters in general; a lot of angst awaits, and a glimpse into child/teenage Jayce and Viktor.
Tw: past child abuse, some harsh/classist language, ableism, past sexual abuse. If any of these bother you, do not read, it is quite a big theme in this work. I'm always here if anyone wants to talk; you're not alone.
