“All right, all right, ye rotten lot. That’s enough tunin’ ta last us a lifetime,” said Gloin as he emptied the bowl of his pipe.
“He’s right. Any longer, and we’ll lose our timin’. Bombur?” Bofur sat up straighter to make eye contact with his brother.
“Aye, you can all start now,” Bombur said as he dropped the lid onto the pot.
From where Bilbo stood on the wooden porch deck, he watched the dwarves adjust their stances as they took up their instruments. Unbeknownst to him, Bilbo inhaled the same time the Ri brother’s and Bifur and Bofur had when bringing their instruments to their lips.

On the second day that Thorin’s company find themselves sheltering at Beorn’s house, the skin-changer’s inappropriate behavior leads to a startling discovery about hobbits. Gandalf (a wily wizard) sees and seizes an opportunity (scam), while Thorin is dismayed but plays along.

Summary
When @lesbian-aunt asked on tumblr for slice-of-life prompts for ficlet ideas, I gave her either one or both [Bilbo and Thorin] get caught out in heavy summer rain, (the kind that gets you so drenched in only a few minutes you can squeeze water out of every last layer) but it's so warm they don't mind, not in the way of autumn rain. Setting of your choosing.
She responded with a beautiful little ficlet that I most naturally had to illustrate - both of them drenched and taking refuge in a nearby greenhouse.
